Thinking of a Pre-Owned Crossover? Think of the Hyundai Kona

Pre-Owned Crossover

If you’re considering a pre-owned compact crossover, then the Hyundai Kona is definitely worth a look. It’s popularity started to rise the minute it arrived in 2018, and has been doing so ever since. Buyers in both the new and pre-owned spheres appreciated the two engine choices (three if you include the EV model) AWD or FWD powertrains and unique styling.

The first thing you’ll want to do when considering a pre-owned Kona is to think about the powertrain, as it is available with both all-wheel-drive (AWD) and front-wheel-drive (FWD). If you’re on the lookout for good fuel economy without going to an EV, then the FWD model is for you. If stability and confidence in slippery situations is more what you’re after, then the AWD model is a good choice. It should be noted that the Kona Electric is available only as a FWD, as that’s one of the best ways to ensure good EV range, which sits at around a claimed 415 km.

After that, you’ll want to consider your engine as two were available in addition to the EV motor: a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine good for 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque and a sporty 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder option that makes 175 hp and 195 lb-ft. Of the two, only the 2.0-litre model is available with FWD, while the 1.6 comes standard with AWD. The Electric, meanwhile, makes 201 hp and 291 lb-ft. The 2.0L gets a six-speed auto, the 1.6 a seven speeder and the Electric gets a direct-drive 1-speed ‘box.

And of course, there’s the question of trims: the Kona has always been offered in Essential, Preferred, Trend, Luxury and Ultimate trims. You’ll find heated seats on most, while the upper trims will offer goodies like a heated steering wheel, satellite radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a whole lot more.

You’re almost spoilt for choice when it comes to the Kona. Choose wisely, and you won’t be disappointed!
