A First Look at the 2024 Hyundai Kona

2024 Hyundai Kona

The Hyundai Kona will be extensively modified in 2024 and the first details about this new version are beginning to trickle in. Here is what to expect from the reworked sub-compact SUV.

A bold new look

The 2024 Hyundai Kona will feature a new design language inspired by EVs. This appearance takes from a number of existing Hyundai models while keeping the identity of the Kona. Indeed, the lightbar in the front and the pixel LEDs in the rear of the electric version are very reminiscent of the IONIQ lineup of electric vehicles while the pronounced body creases in the door panels are inspired by the Tucson and the Elantra. Inside, the dashboard is composed of a single panel that houses both the infotainment screen and the new digital instrument cluster, again reminiscent of the IONIQ lineup.

Three types of powertrains

Just like the current model, the 2024 Hyundai Kona will be offered in both gasoline-powered and fully electric forms. The news here is that a new hybrid variant will be added in order to bridge the gap between both existing models and attract buyers who want to reduce their fuel consumption and their environmental impact but aren’t ready for a fully electric vehicle quite yet. Details about these three powertrains are not yet available, but we know that the electric version was engineered first and then adapted to receive a gasoline engine, unlike the previous model. This means that the electric variant could be more efficient and offer a longer range than before. Interestingly, all three versions will be differentiated from the outside by a number of exclusive design cues.

Longer and still as sporty

The 2024 Hyundai Kona will also be slightly larger than the current model since its overall length increased by 150 millimetres and its wheelbase grew by 60 millimetres. This should make the new Kona more practical and more comfortable over bumps than previously. Fans of sporty SUVs will be glad to know that the more dynamic N-Line model will be back in 2024, still with a distinctive appearance that lets everyone know it is more dynamic than other Kona models.
