A look at the different engines offered in the 2023 Hyundai Tucson

2023 Hyundai Tucson

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson received a significant overhaul last year when it was introduced as a completely new generation. One of the most significant improvements made to the new Tucson was the addition of two new electrified models, a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid. These models are still offered and we thought we would take a look at each.

Here, we take a look at the three models and engines offered in the 2023 Hyundai Tucson.

Gas-powered efficiency and value

The base 2023 Hyundai Tucson is powered by a powerful Smartstream 2.5L GDI engine with an output of 187 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission for optimal response. This powertrain is available in FWD and AWD configurations. This lets buyers choose between efficiency and value or optimal handling and traction in all conditions.

The base version of the Tucson features loads of standard equipment like an intuitive 8.0″ touch-screen display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as loads of passive and active safety features. This Tucson is also available with the N-Line package, which brings N Line-exclusive 19″ alloy wheels, N Line-exclusive front bumper fascia and grille and many more distinctive features.

Hybrid efficiency in the 2023 Hyundai Tucson HEV

For even more performance and efficiency, the Tucson is offered in hybrid variant. This one is powered by a Smartstream 1.6L Turbo GDI 4-cylinder engine mated to a 44.2 kW electric motor with 1.49 kWh lithium-ion. It is mated to a 6-speed Hybrid automatic transmission that channels the power to all four wheels thanks to Hyundai state-of-the-art H-Trac system. The package outputs 227 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque which is plenty of performance for driving in the city or taking a road trip on the highway. It only uses 6.3 L/100 km in the city and 6.6 L/100 km on the highway.

Plug-in performance and range in the 2023 Hyundai Tucson PHEV

The 2023 Hyundai Tucson is also available in plug-in hybrid form. This variant is powered by Smartstream 1.6L Turbo GDI 4-cylinder engine mated to a 66.9 kW electric motor with a 13.8 kWh lithium-ion battery. Drivers can go as far as 53 kilometres on a full charge, and this PHEV only uses 2.9 Le/100km. Imagine how much you will save every year!
