2024 Hyundai Kona Unveiled: Electric Model Boasts 418 km Range

2024 Hyundai Kona Unveiled

The 2024 Hyundai Kona has just made its North American debut at the New York International Auto Show, and it’s turning heads with its new features and impressive capabilities. This latest iteration of the popular subcompact SUV comes in three different models: Electric, Limited, and Kona N Line. Let’s take a closer look at what each model has to offer.

“The all-new Kona and Kona Electric continue to build upon our extremely successful first-generation model, with outstanding efficiency, innovative technologies, distinctive styling, and comprehensive safety features,” said José Muñoz, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor North America. “The new Kona Electric represents the next step forward in eco-friendly mobility solutions, a key model in Hyundai’s rapid transition to clean mobility and progress for humanity.”

First up, the Kona Electric. This all-electric vehicle boasts a long-range 64.8-kWh battery, which delivers an estimated range of 418 km based on preliminary internal Hyundai tests. That’s a significant improvement over the previous model, and it makes the Kona Electric one of the most impressive electric vehicles on the market in terms of range.

But the Kona Electric isn’t just about range. It also offers a host of innovative features that make it a pleasure to drive. For example, it comes with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, which allows you to use the car’s battery to power other devices. This is especially handy if you’re out camping or otherwise off the grid.

Another unique feature of the Kona Electric is the i-PEDAL driving mode. This mode allows you to control the car’s speed using just one pedal. When you press down on the pedal, the car accelerates, and when you lift your foot, the car slows down and eventually comes to a complete stop. It’s a very intuitive way to drive, and it can even help extend the car’s range by maximizing regenerative braking.

Speaking of regenerative braking, the Kona Electric comes with a Smart Regenerative System that uses the car’s cameras and radar to predict when you’ll need to slow down or stop. This allows the car to maximize regenerative braking, which helps recharge the battery and extend the car’s range even further.

Finally, the Kona Electric comes with Active Grille Shutters, which help improve aerodynamics and reduce drag. This not only improves the car’s efficiency but also gives it a sleek and modern look.

Furthermore, the 2024 Hyundai Kona also offers gas-powered options for drivers who prefer traditional engines. The Kona comes with two gasoline powertrain options: a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder Atkinson engine and a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder direct-injected, turbocharged engine. The Atkinson engine produces an estimated 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, paired with a Smartstream Intelligent Variable Transmission for maximum efficiency, while the 1.6-litre turbocharged engine generates an estimated 190 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, providing drivers with the assurance of smooth and swift acceleration in urban environments.

For those who prefer a sportier ride, the Kona N Line model boasts 19-inch N Line alloy wheels, N Line rear spoiler, dual-outlet exhaust tips, Bose premium audio, sport seating with red accents, aluminum sport pedals, N Line scuff plates, and black mirrors. The N Line also features a lower stance and aggressive front and rear fascia designs for a sporty appearance.

Overall, the 2024 Hyundai Kona is an impressive vehicle that offers something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for an all-electric SUV with a long range and innovative features or a sporty gas-powered vehicle with a head-turning design, the Kona has you covered.
