The 2023 Hyundai IONIQ 6 Gets an Official EPA Range of 581 Kilometers

The 2023 Hyundai IONIQ

Every new electric vehicle sold in North America gets tested by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) in the United States, which determines the official range estimate that can be advertised by the automaker.

The new-for-2023 Hyundai IONIQ 6 has recently undergone testing by the EPA, which determined that its official range is 581 kilometres (361 miles) for the SE Long Range RWD model.

This version benefits from the longest range in the IONIQ 6 lineup since it is equipped with only one electric motor on the rear axle while also benefiting from the 77.4 kWh battery pack, which is the only one that has been tested at the moment.

Due to its larger 20-inch wheels and its additional weight, the IONIQ 6 SEL RWD will be able to drive up to 491 kilometres (305 miles) on a charge.

The Limited RWD is capable of the same driving distance despite its own additional equipment and features.

Adding a second motor to the IONIQ 6, on the front axle, increases the power output substantially while also providing all-wheel drive. This helps the IONIQ 6 be more sure-footed on slippery roads, but it comes at the cost of some range.

This is why the SE Long Range AWD is capable of 509 kilometres (316 miles) despite having the same powertrain and features as the SE RWD.

Both the SEL and the Limited AWD models share the same 435-kilometre (270-mile) range due to their heavier weight and their 20-inch wheels.

In addition to offering a generous range, the IONIQ 6 benefits from the fastest charging speed currently available due to its 800-volt battery architecture that gives it the ability to charge from 10 to 80% in only 18 minutes on a 350 kW charging station.

Natural Ressources Canada (the Canadian equivalent of the EPA) has yet to announce its own official range numbers, but Hyundai Canada has confirmed the American numbers (converted to kilometres) will also apply to Canada.
