2022 Hyundai IONIQ5 vs. 2022 Hyundai Kona EV: Two Great EVs, But With Key Differences

2022 Hyundai IONIQ5

The new Hyundai IONIQ5 has made a lot of noise in the automotive world since its unveiling. But Hyundai has been in the EV game for a while, notably with the Kona EV – which takes the practical small SUV and makes it superbly efficient thanks to a battery and electric motor.

On one hand, the IONIQ5 exhibits a really extravagant style. On the other, the Kona EV tends to blend beautifully with the crowd. But underneath, both also have key differences.

Here, we take a look at both vehicles and outline some of the differences and resemblance.

The 2022 Hyundai IONIQ5 gets available AWD and three power levels

While both vehicles show excellent range numbers, the IONIQ5 offers buyers more to choose from. The base model will travel up to 354 kilometres on a full charge, the extended range model will push things much further with 488 kilometres of range. Finally, The AWD model will get you 435 kilometres of range.

With a range of 415 kilometres, the Kona EV is a great compromise, with plenty of range for all types of trips.

The IONIQ5 also offers three power levels that cater to every need. The base model has 168 horsepower, and the extended-range model gets more with 225 horsepower. The AWD model ranks in at 320 horsepower and 446 lb-ft of torque. This provides excellent response in the city as well as on the highway.

The Hyundai Kona EV is right in the middle with 201 horsepower and 291 lb-ft of torque. But it can only send this power to the front wheels.

The 2022 Hyundai IONIQ5 delivers more space

The IONIQ5 is the first vehicle to be based on Hyundai’s dedicated Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). This means, among other benefits, that the IONIQ5 gets a flat floor and more cargo space by the same token.

With 770 litres in normal configuration and 1,680 litres when the rear seating is folded, the IONIQ5 lets you take more stuff on your adventures than the Kona EV, which has 544 litres and 1,296 litres in the same respective configurations.

Whichever you choose, you will get superior interior finish, state-of-the-art safety technologies and a warranty that will keep your mind at ease. Contact us to know everything there is to know about the 2022 Kona EV and the 2022 IONIQ5!
